Of the many interesting exhibits featured at the Monterey Museum of Art, Monterey Artists Abroad, is an exhibition of works by twleve regional artists who were among the first Americans to study in Paris. Monterey Artists Abroad is a part of the upcomming Art in the Adobes Festival to be held September 13-16, 2012. While abroad, the American artists were exposed to Impressionism, a radical art movement that began in Paris during the 1870’s, whose tenets rejected the traditional standards of painting, and embraced vibrant color combinations and everyday subject matter to achieve the visual effects of natural light. Impressionism gained worldwide exposure, and American artists traveled to Paris to be in close proximity with a master painter. The exhibit is open now through October 21, 2012.
