Gone Fishing in Monterey Bay

By: The Inns of Monterey / Apr 08, 2012
Ocean salmon season opened for recreational fisherman along the California Coast on Saturday, April 7, 2012. Fisherman are flocking to the Monterey Bay to haul in their allotment of two salmon per day. Any species is permitted except Coho. A strong season is welcomed after a four year shut down due to dwindling fish populations.
Generally Salmon can average 10 -18 pounds each with some reaching 30+ pounds. Fish less than 24 inches in length must be thrown back while anything larger is a keeper. In addition to making a delicious meal, the flesh of the salmon is highly valued for its dietary nutritional content which includes high levels of important Omega-3 fatty acids.
Several deep-sea charters on Monterey Bay offer visitors with one-day or annual sport fishing license. Randy's Fishing Trips and Chris' Fishing are each located on Fisherman's Fharf #1 within easy walking distance of the Monterey Bay Inn. Advance reservations are highly encouraged due to the popularity and short duration of the season.
