A drive down California Highway 1 to Big Sur is a must for any visitor to the Monterey Bay area.  This famous stretch of coastal California is distinguished by unparalleled ocean views and towering redwood forests.  A number of California State Parks along Highway 1 provide access to Big Sur beaches and secluded coves.  McWay Falls, located at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, is one of the most photographed waterfalls in the United States.  Big Sur is also home to the Los Padres National Forest that offers miles of hiking trails.  Watch for California condors nesting high in the stately redwoods.
